Gondolas and Bridge, Venice
Free UK delivery included
One of six etching prints inspired by visits to Venice and Rome in the 1980s to 2000s.
A single cloaked and hatted figure crosses a quiet canal bridge, its silhouette caught against the warm sepia facades of the buildings behind with a smaller figure visible further along the scene. Below, two gondolas rest moored in the still water beneath the bridge's stone arch, their dark hulls and curved prows rendered in rich, confident blacks against the paler tones above. The etching's warm sepia palette gives the whole composition a hushed, late-afternoon quality; Venice caught in a quiet, unhurried moment. Fine linework builds the ironwork of the bridge railing and the architectural detail of the buildings beyond, while the gondolas' dark mass anchors the foreground.
Printed on textured German Etching paper to preserve the authentic character of the original plate. Unframed, with white border.
