Carnival, Piazza San Marco, Venice
Free UK delivery included
One of six etching prints inspired by visits to Venice and Rome between the 1980s and 2000s, this etching shows two elaborately masked Carnival figures standing before the unmistakable silhouette of Piazza San Marco. Behind them is the Byzantine dome of St Mark's Basilica, with the arched colonnade of the Doge's Palace stretching away to the right. A third, more distant figure at the edge of the frame adds depth to the quiet, theatrical stillness of the scene. Fine etched linework builds the intricate texture of the masks and costumes against the softer architectural detail behind, while the warm reddish tone of the plate gives the whole composition an aged, atmospheric quality.
Printed on textured German Etching paper to preserve the authentic character of the original plate. Unframed as standard, with white border.
